 For many years I have been writing articles as part of my job but had often wondered how freelance journalists get their stuff published. How do you approach editors and how to present your work? I wanted to test myself. In July 2002, I decided to take Offbeatrips' online travel writing and photography course. With years of experience behind them, Steve and Eileen have it all worked out and, thank goodness, they were willing to share their knowledge with me.
During the course I learned how to angle the content of articles, how to get the best out of my photographs and how to package the results for editors. "Yes, I can do this," was my predominant thought as I progressed through the course. I have now had 15 articles published, one of them twice, with various publications showing interest in a number of others. It's a great feeling to see your name in print!

"Steve's "on the ground" experience in travel writing has taken him across the globe and in this course he imparts his knowledge with an energy and enthusiasm which is infectious. About 18 years ago, I had some travel writing published and then let things slip by giving up too soon. Steve has got me back on track.
If you are thinking of starting out, his up to date knowledge of the travel writing market and current photo handling technology is just what you need. He can give you the broad spectrum of information required for success. My first article this year was a centre fold on the trip to Britain I took late last year, with full colour photos and an entry on the Internet! If "the proof of the pudding is in the eating", the proof of Steve's course is in the publishing.  Stephen Rothwell contacted me - out of the blue - in January 2000, proposing a series of feature articles about my adventure tours.
He had already secured air ticket support from Aeroflot, and based on his positive track record I agreed to sponsor his ground arrangements.
Stephen came to Kamchatka in April 2000 with the promise of at least five published articles in US, Australian and Asian newspapers and magazines that we had both agreed upon.
In the end, he came through with nine articles! I invited Stephen back to Kamchatka in August 2000 and he wrote another series of articles based on the different activities he experienced in a different season.
Altogether, Stephen has published 31 articles based on his two trips to Kamchatka, and he is still writing them! It is my experience that Stephen Rothwell will, literally, go to the ends of the earth to get the most and the best coverage for his sponsors.
